主讲人简介:

Dr.Miaomou (Jack) Chen obtained his Bachelor degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, Master degree from University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei, Ph.D. from Texas A & M University in US. He is a Texas registered professional engineer. Before he came back to China, he worked as Senior Engineer in ABS, Principal Engineer in Technip, Senior Advisor for Subsea Well Intervention in Schlumberger, Manager of Riser Department in J P Kenny/MCS, Senior Advisor of Riser and Flowlines in ExxonMobil, Vice President in DMAR Engineering. Through those great opportunities, he acquired in-depth and in-breadth experience in EPCIC and operation of subsea production system. He is well known industry expert in subsea pipeline, riser, manifold, jumper, umbilical and single point mooring system. Since 2014, he came back to China and joined COOEC in Shenzhen as Chief Engineer for Subsea Technology.

Abstract:

Rising demand for minerals has led to a resurgence of interest in exploration of mineral resources located on the seabed. Such resources normally refer to three different mineral resources: seafloor massive sulfides (SMS) around hydrothermal vents, cobalt-rich crusts (CRC) on the flanks of seamounts or fields of manganese polymetallic nodules on the abyssal plains. Each mineral type has its own characteristics such as water depth, topography, shape, abundance, grade etc., and requires different mining methods. This report summarizes the status of the technology development for mining of each mineral, and introduces the available technologies that are readily applicable to the deep sea mining.
